Everyday Goddess says: Why Not Believe

Everyday Goddess Joy brings Joy

A couple of weeks ago Paula Josa Jones posted a video from Ted Talks on her website Horse Dancing.  It was Brene Brown talking about the power of vulnerability.

It was a lot to take in, but what I got from it was that what we all really want is a connection to each other.    To  truly do this we must be our authentic selves and to allow ourselves to be seen with all our  imperfections and vulnerabilities.  It is only when we accept these in ourselves that we can accept them in others.  Brown said the only difference between the people who feel they belong and are connected to others  and those who  feel disconnected, is that those who feel they  are connected believe they are worthy of love and belonging.

Why does it seem so much easier to believe we are not worthy?  And why not start turning it around.  If it’s only a belief, why not begin believing we are worthy of love and belonging?  I’ve changed some of my beliefs in the past few years so I know it’s possible.

These new Goddess Potholders are some more beliefs I’m working on changing that were inspired by Brene Brown’s talk.

  1. You are so onto something with all of this, Maria! Simply beautiful. And I love the Joy potholder. My favorite word is Joy. How many of us think we are not entitled to joy? Your potholder shows others that we can be Joy and give Joy and Joy comes right back to us.

  2. I REALLY REALLY love these pot holders……………. but I want a streaming art piece as I would NEVER use your art for potholders!!! I cook ALOT!!! But I really really love these Goddesses!!!!!

  3. As always, your pot holder are inspirational!!

Many months ago,I also watched Brene Brown’s TED-talk, perhaps the same one you saw. It sent me running to the bookstore to purchase her book titled “The Gifts of Imperfection”. She’s a gem! And why IS it that we always gravitate towards believing we are less than worthy?? The change only happens when we are consciously active in turning it around.

  4. I do like the simplicity of this series, Maria. I noticed something though that I’m not sure you intended: the goddess of abundance has her hands folded closed and has NOTHING in them; the goddess of belonging has her arms crossed so that she CANNOT ‘be seen’; and the everyday goddess has her eyes closed so that her internal sun is NOT shining. I wonder what these apparent ‘Freudian slips’ mean?

    1. Well, Hazel I was aware of some of the things you mentioned but sometimes they work at showing what needs to be not what is. And I suppose some are just interpreted differently by different people. My Goddesses aren’t perfect and they let their vulnerabilities shine. And yes, I’m sure my subconscious is active when ever I’m doing my work.
