Dyeing Doilies

A doilie in the dye bath

I woke up seeing a tree on my new wall hanging.  Its roots growing on top of the Victorian woman and Goddess.

But when I got to the studio this morning I could see the tree needed to have some color.  I wanted to make it out of doilies, but the ones I have are all white or off white.  Then I remembered the bottle of  Rit Dye I bought last year and never used.

So I cleaned out a five gallon bucket from the barn and filled it with hot water, a cup of salt, (as the instructions suggest) and the bottle of teal clothes dye.

I stirred it all with a big bamboo stick and dropped the doilies in.

They’re soaking in the bucket outside my studio door as I write this.

I’ll let you know how it goes.

    1. I’m so glad you liked it Kathy. It’s a gift to me too. To hold still that 30 seconds as I take the video then to watch it afterwards. And without someone to post it for, I’m sure I would never have even thought to do it.
