Belly Dancing Class

Me and Jon

I’m leaving in a few minutes for my first Belly Dancing Class.

As much as I want to do this, I’m really nervous, bordering on scared, too.

I was so moved when Jon and I saw the Belly Dancing performance a few weeks ago, that my friend Kitty, who used to Belly Dance, asked if I’d be interested in taking a class.

I’m really interested.

I’d love to be able to move my body like the women I saw that Saturday night.  But even more, I want to feel the joy it seemed to me those women felt about their bodies.  They were completely present and confident in their bodies.  I want to know what that feels like.

It’s only one class, maybe the first of many, maybe the first and last.  What ever happens, it feels important to me.  I’ll let you know how it goes.

  1. Go for it. I think you will love it. I took belly dancing for awhile and loved it. You will get happily lost in the joy of dancing and forget you were scared. Save your nicest scarves to dance with. Some of your India material will make a nice costume.
Hope to hear more about this wonderful, new adventure!

  2. Oh! I’m eager to hear what you learn! I’ve never had a class, but someone told me long ago, that all I need to do is write my name (or something else) with mu butt. I’ve been doing that for years to whatever music I am loving at the time. It’s so fun!

  3. You will love it! Over 30 years ago, I took a class to rehab my shoulder. My chiropractor recommended a Lebanese lady in town who taught classes. You will enjoy making your own costume, and your belt. I made my own harem pants, and also a caftan to go over top of them. Then I wore a coin belt that I made. Get some Zills, the finger cymbols. Try dancing with a veil. There is a lot of great music, such as the CD Bellylicious. I also like the old vinyl record called Skin Tight by the Marty Gold Orchestra. It has some great music for dancing. Like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSBii-5e4Og
