Gus Kisses (Yuk!)

Gus jumped up on me and started licking my face.  When he does this, even if he wakes me up, I can’t stop laughing.  And I don’t even like to have my face licked by dogs.  But I can’t help it, and he seems to know it.

I was sleeping on the couch because I got a stomach bug or a bout of food poisoning, I’m not sure which.  I’m feeling much better now, but most of the day I was lying around, running back and forth to the bathroom.   I was also catching up on back issues of The New Yorker.

I finished reading Willa Cather’s My Antonia at about 2am when I first woke up not feeling well.  I’d never read any of her books before I got Death Comes for the Archbishop when we were in New Mexico.

I fell in love with her writing, especially how she writes about the land and nature.  It becomes a character in the story.  I also find her human characters complex and very real.  I know I’ll be reading more of her books.

I have a few new books that Jon got me to choose from next.  It’s between Zadie Smith’s new book of essays and The Music Shop by Rachel Joyce (she wrote The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry)

But I often like to take a break between books and even if I don’t get to any of the other articles in The New Yorker that interest me, I always get to the short stories.

We’re expecting a big snow storm here tomorrow.  I really appreciate my “commute” to work on days like we’re expecting tomorrow.  All it takes is a little shoveling, and waiting for my studio to heat up.    I expect to be all better tomorrow, up early, shoveling and getting back to work.

  1. I loved “The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry” and the sequel (did you read that too?) – they hit me at just the right time (I have no clue what that time was…) and I haven’t heard anyone else ever mention that book 🙂 Enjoy your “commute” — same here — I will wander all the way upstairs to go to work in the morning…

    1. Ah, You have even a shorter commute than I do! Good for someone who lives where you do! And I didn’t know there was a sequel to Harold Fry. I’ll have to check into it. Did you like it? I can send you the Music Box if you’d like when I’m done. It’s would other wise go in our little library.
