The sun was so pretty on the back porch this morning, I just had to step out and experience it for a bit.
First Flo came around looking for some attention.
Then Minnie came along and they both started circling my feet….
The next moment the two were bumping heads. Minnie and I bump heads right before her afternoon feeding, (it works because I feed her on a table in the barn so were almost eye to eye or head to head) but I’ve never seen Minnie and Flo bump heads. I’ve heard it’s a sign of affection or at least acceptance as a familiar. A moment after I took this picture, Flo hissed and swatted at Minnie. I’m not going to even pretend I have any idea what’s going on between these two.
Oh, that’s so funny. Sometimes my cats will do the head thing with each other because they are wanting the top of their head licked where they can’t get to it. Maybe Flo was pissed because Minnie didn’t oblige!
OK, those made me crack a huge grin. Looks like you know where to find your socks. 🙂 Too fun !
I have two barn cats that do the same thing, the smaller one (female I think) is very friendly to RC (the male), but he can only tolerate so much and backs off..she then swats at him, as if saying “ungrateful puss”. I think you are wise not to try and interpret what they are saying to one another..I am clueless too!
This is such a great perspective on your life with Minnie and Flo, Maria…..cats are truly so mysterious. The head butts do seem to be a sign of affection. In my experience the hissing stops after awhile.
just wondering, are you going to let Flo in the house this winter now that she has become more of a pet?
We’ll let both cats in the basement when it’s really cold Elaine. They’ve already found some cozy caves in the hay. I don’t really trust Frieda with a cat in the house, if you know what I mean.
I totally know what you mean … better to be safe from the cold in the basement than possibly become moving prey ….. By the way, I just love Freida’s story …am anxiously awaiting her book.
They’re keeping up appearances. Our cats do that – groom one another or rub against one another and then hiss and swat as though to cover that they really like one another!
Ah now that makes sense to me Sue.
