Yee hee! Three days in Vermont

Started this drawing last night. At first the girl pointing at the clock looked too much like death, so I gave her a tassel on her hood. So even if she is death, she's at least playful.

Yee Haa!  We’re going away for my birthday.  Our favorite Inn in Vermont for three whole days!   This is the place with the giant bathtub, great food and a small town where there is nothing to do.  I’m turning 50 tomorrow and although I’ve never paid much attention to my age, 50 seems different to me.  I remember when I was in my mid 20’s and was working at a museum on Long Island.  Judy, the museum’s director threw herself a big birthday party when she turned 50.  I remember thinking it was such a cool and empowering (although I’m sure I didn’t use that word) thing to do.  The thought of throwing myself a party seemingly impossible.

My personal rite of passage will be getting a strong center and open heart tattoo.  My own symbol with an alligator and flower.   But I’ve already received the best gift I could have.  Jon’s loving birthday wishes for me.

Well, we’re off, be back on Thursday……

  1. My birthday is tomorrow. Wish we were spending 3 days in Vermont. Only 1000 miles away. All seasons in Vermont are beautiful.

    Happy birthday, many more.

  2. Happy Birthday, Maria! Welcome to the decade of the fifties! One friend called it the “Melancoly Decade”. I have not found it to be so and am 2/3 thru it. I have never worked, or played, harder!

  3. Happy Birthday Maria from a fellow 1964 baby! Have a wonderful time in Vermont, and I can’t wait to see what you do with the next 50 years! You are truly blossoming!

  4. Have a wonderful birthday!! I, too, will be 50 in April and have been feeling the same way.I have never felt too much like celebrating my birthday in my 40’s but to reach 50 in good health and family seems pretty awesome. Have a great trip!

  5. Happy Birthday Maria!
Heres to another year of creativity, abundance and community.
    Let your unique spirit soar.
It was lovely to see you talk about your work, in the interview.
Jon’s tribute to you was beautifuI. I know you will have a wonderful time together in Vermont………
    All the best,
    donna

  6. Happy Birthday!! I celebrated my 50th birthday but not my 60th in the same grand way. 60 became more of a turning point, a time of reflection for better or worse and an adjustment to changes in life that hopefully will bring more freedom to be what I want to be and do what I want to do. It’s a pity it took 60 years but late is better than never.
Have fun on your 50th birthday!
    Ida

  7. Happy birthday, Maria! I hope that you have a wonderful getaway and be good to yourself. 50 is empowering ……… so embrace it! Now is when you get to apply all that you’ve learned in life.
