It’s slow, but today I got the feeling for the quilt I’m making from Gary’s shirts.
Adding the red really helped bring it to life. There’s one t-shirt that I haven’t been able to make work in either quilt. It’s a Harvard University t-shirt and the colors are just different enough to make it stand out, not fit in. Also, the lettering also has a formal feel to it, different from the other fonts. I wanted to use all the shirts with words and images on them, but I don’t know if I can make that one work.
I’m also not used to working with all these solid colors. When I look through my quilt books I admire the quilts made up of big solids. But they don’t come naturally to me. I’m so drawn to the subtleties of the patterns. But I like how graphic and bold these quilts are.
I have a good feeling for where this quilt is going now. And think I may be able to finish with the design part of it tomorrow.
Oh Maria, This is priceless ! Fantastic job. Take a bow…….xo
How about putting the Harvard T-shirt as part of the backing?
Yes Suzanne, Yes, the idea is in the air! Good advice.
It occurs to me that you, as a quilt maker, share a posture in common with me, a labyrinth maker: on our hands and knees a lot.
That’s for sure Dale. I’d love to know more about your labyrinths and how you make them.
I love how the quilt is coming along so far. What about using the Harvard shirt on the backing? That way there is just a little ‘extra’ on the back.
Sue, you must have read my mind or I read yours. I thought the same thing when I went into my studio today. There’s something to “sleeping on it”.
