Goddess Eyes All Done

"Goddess Eyes"
“Goddess Eyes”

Yesterday I finished my piece Goddess Eyes.  I already have ideas for the next wall hanging.  Some of them came from this piece.  Things that I tried and didn’t work.  I’ve been working on this piece for so long, and I’m so close to it, I almost can’t see it anymore.  But I knew I was finished because after stitching the last piece of fabric to it, (which I didn’t know was the last piece at the time) I sat down and looked at it and nothing else needed to be done.

Almost all the symbols and designs and images of the goddesses come from ancient  goddess pottery and statues, with my twist on it. My personal vocabulary is also pretty obvious in it.

goddess eys detail2 This woman is from a piece of fabric that someone sent me.  She’s picking apples, but since I cut out the apple tree, I see her as offering up her apples.  I thought the symbolism of Eve and the apple together with the Goddess worked well.  The  wide open Goddess Eyes represent wisdom and knowledge, just what Eve got from biting the apple. I used to see this as a bad thing, the loss of innocence, but at this point in my life, I’ll take wisdom over innocence anytime.

I’ll be shipping Goddess Eyes to it’s new home on Monday.
