After the Open House

From left to right:   Carol Law Conklin (Batik artist),  Mandy Meyer Hill (0ne of the good witches), Jane McMillen (pincushion artist), Deb Forster (Bedlam Farm Animal care)  and Carol Gully (married to Ed Gully, and sold her first piece of art at my Gallery, a collage made with her peacocks feathers and pansies)  and her granddaughter in the background.

I didn’t get many pictures of the Open House, but you can see the whole weekend in pictures and writing on Jon’s Blog.  I’m always too busy selling art and talking to the people who come to my Gallery and introducing them to the artists, which I love to do.  And  my phone/camera is always in use as a credit card Square machine, so it’s busy too.

I’m getting pretty good at figuring out the numbers from the Open House.  I think this was our biggest one yet.  And it was definitely the biggest in sales.  I’m happy to say all the artists did pretty well.  Thanks to all of you, we sold a lot of art.  And I’ll be selling more on my website in the next couple of days.  I thought I’d get to it today, but I’m still trying to catch up on my email.  So, all in good time.

As Jon wrote on his blog, we’re still trying to figure out how to not lose money on the Open House.  I make a 30% commission on the art, but it seems more money always goes out than comes in.  I’d be happy with breaking even and working on it from there.   But I do think we’re figuring it out.  At least the paper work gets easier for me each time.  I’m finally understanding how to use those Excel  Workbooks.

By the end of the week I hope to have my studio back in working condition.  I already have a list of artists for the next Open House and a bunch of ideas that I want to get working on.

  1. Dear Maria, I had NO IDEA that it ends up costing you and Jon money to put on the Open House, money that you don’t make back. Just another BIG HEARTED effort that the two of you do to BLESS the rest of us! THANK YOU!!! Annie
