I didn’t actually see the Pileated Woodpecker while walking in the woods this afternoon, but I knew she was there. First I heard her laughing then I saw what she had done.

What a great laugh! Your forests feel so haunting and beautiful at the same time. Very cool.
I am always so happy when this time of day comes (it’s 3:45 here in the High Sierra) and my computer dings fullmoonfiberarts into my emailbox. Your dailies are as welcome and enjoyable as a cup of tea in the afternoon.
How nice that is to hear Diane. I can now imagine my blog coming up on your computer so far away. Thanks for letting me know.
They are very distinctive sounding, aren’t they? It looks like it did all that recently, amazing! The ones around my house have several already hollowed out trees they live in, so I’ve never seen this, cool! BTW Spring really is coming soon, the cardinals have changed their songs to the mating song, so it won’t be long now! Have a good weekend!
And I’ve never seen them living in a tree Katy. I’m impressed you know the different songs. That’s something I’m really bad at.
My favorite bird (despite their destructiveness). I remember the first time I saw one, at our feeder. “That’s a big f&**[email protected] bird,” I said to my husband, not knowing its name. We started shouting out “BF!” to alert the other partner to come look whenever one of us would see one. (Well, we whisper it now because our Sheltie dog runs to the window and barks them away if he hears us say “BF.”) Once saw one feeding two youngsters at our feeder. I will never in my lifetime see this again, I told myself, as I treasured the moment.
I’ve never seen one at a feeder Bonnie and never babies. They are impressive for sure!
