When I opened my email this morning there was one from Pinterest saying that someone re-pinned one of my pins. It was a photo of a carved ancient goddess with giant arms reaching over her head. I don’t remember ever seeing it before, but obviously I did and liked it enough to add it to one of my boards.
I was inspired. I did a quick line drawing of my own version of the goddess on paper then drew her using permanent marker onto the quilt I’m working on with the raptor eyes.
That small shiny thing sewed to the middle of the circle on her dress is a small shard of a mirror I found when I was walking in the woods. It had captured the sun and was shining up at me. I couldn’t resist it. I stitched it on her with silver thread.
Then I took the goddess with the mirror and mask, and sewed her onto the quilt too. I used a shiny ribbon around her and when I was done sewing her down, she was anything but flat. She popped out like half a giant egg. So I made a slit in the back of the quilt and stuffed her like a pillow. Now she literally pops off the quilt. A Bas-relief.
This is what the quilt looked like when I stopped working on it finish up Fran’s Cat quilt.
I keep thinking I want to make an indigo lace tree on it, maybe right between the Mask and Mirror Goddess and the Owl-Cat. I just have to get some dye for my doilies and lace and experiment a bit.
