The eye above is my practice eye.
I knew I had to get the eyes on my goddess, on my latest wallhanging just right. They’re too important to mess up. And since they’re drawn right on the fabric I only had one chance to get them right.
So I practiced.
I used black marker on the pupil and stitched the iris on my sewing machine. Two nights ago, as I lay in bed trying to fall back to sleep, I pictured her eyes. Green like a cats is what came to me.
I had already sewed her “leaf hair” down, her eyes were the last to be done.
I started sewing the backing on tonight. I just have a little more to do then the piece will be done. I’ll write more about it tomorrow.
This is exquisite and powerful, Maria. I was deeply moved and hope you might consider reproducing it as an art print, perhaps. It would be a treasure and I would have carried it at the Woman’s March.
Blessings to you for your inspiring work, now and in the future. I’ll be following your journey in India.

Thanks Virginia. And I’ll think about reproducing the piece. It’s an honor to think of you carrying her at the women’s march.
Seriously cool. Love the oak leaf hair…
Wow! She is fantastic.
Just beautiful! She would make a wonderful companion at the next Women’s March.
Ah you’re the second person to tell me that Terri. I’ve actually decided to make some small posters with her image on it. Thank you!
