Bluejay Skull

I found this Bluejay skull in the pasture a while ago.  I placed it on the shelf between the living room and dining room with the birds nests that I also found.

Today I looked at it and saw the fire from the wood stove glowing in its eye.

The skull reminds me of the  masks some doctors used to wear in Europe during the plague.  The masks  had big round eyes and large beaks, which the stuffed with herbs and believed helped protect them from the disease.
