Fate Back At “Work”

Because it’s been such a hot summer, we’ve been leaving the gate to the pasture open at night so the donkeys and sheep can graze when it’s cooler. That means in the morning the sheep are full and resting in the shade of the pole barn.

In the past,  Red would have gotten the sheep out of the barn and into the pasture, even if just for a little while.  And that’s when Fate would have the chance to do what she loves most, run around and around them.

Then, for a while, just before and after Red died, Jon was experimenting with trying to teach Fate to herd the sheep again.  So even if the sheep were out in the pasture, we were discouraging Fate from circling them, hoping she might focus more on actually trying to move them.

Fate’s done pretty well working with Jon doing Therapy work at The Mansion, but when it comes to sheep herding, it doesn’t look promising.

Last night, for the first time in a long time, I closed the gate to the pasture, moving back to our old grazing schedule of leaving the gates open for just a few hours in the morning and evening.

So this morning, when I opened the gate, the donkeys and sheep ran out to the pasture and Fate followed them. Finally being able to once again, circle around and around them.  I think you can see her joy in this video. I know I can.
