Quick Snail

The snails seem very happy in their “new” tank.

Sometimes, since they can move slow, I like to try to get a good time-lapse video of the snails.  This time my new Socrates Mystery Snail put on a good show.

(You can see his air tube or siphon just under his shell. When he needs air he’ll go to the top of the tank and breath through this tube.)

  1. Oh my God, this is so fascinating to watch. How efficiently he moves over the rocks. Nature just delights and amazes me. Does it take some time for the moss to build up on the rocks so that there is food for them? If so, what do they eat in the mean time? I would love to have a fish tank but they always seemed like so much work to keep healthy. It’s a pleasure to share yours. Thank you.

    1. I’m so glad you see the wonder in the snails and how they move too Wendy. The algae will grow on the rocks eventually, but until then we have algae tablets that we put in the water so they have enough to eat. I’m glad you’re enjoying the tank. Maybe you can have a tank with just snails, I bet that would be easier.

  2. What a wonderful idea. Maybe I’ll look into that. I love the soft light of a fish tank in the dark. This might just be something worthy of some research. That in itself is fun. In the mean time I am learning so much from watching yours.
