I’ve been thinking about my Snail Party. I think I have enough people who will come, we only have room for five chairs around the fish tank so it won’t be a big party.
I’m thinking about what kind of food to have and have picked out a few passages from the book, The Sound of a Wild Snail Eating by Elisabeth Tova Bailey to read from and have a few videos to show if things get too slow. That’s part of having a snail party, I can’t guarantee that the snail will do something interesting, or anything at all.
But the people who will come will understand that. No one expects snail tricks (although I do wonder what they might be).
I still don’t have a date for my snail party, but I’ll figure that out soon enough.
This afternoon the sun came in the window, for just a few minutes, at just the right angle to throw a shadow on Jon’s latest rock sculpture, from the fish swimming by. I was lucky to be there at just the right moment.

Your party plans are so thoughtful and seem very exciting. I actually purchased this book when you wrote about it a while ago. I actually purchased two, one for my mother and one for me. She grew bored, but I was captivated. Was slightly in disbelief that this was made into a movie, even more so that Daryl Hannah is included. She has been one of my all time favorites since I was little. Thank you for sharing Maria!
I have discovered that snails are not for everyone Colleen! 🙂 I hope the movie comes to my independent theater, if not I hope to see it online. I think snail people find each other.

Maria, I feel that when you are thoughtful and present, you are able to enjoy the slower things in life that are always present. Robin Wall Kimmerer grounded me. My mind felt like it was at a party when she described a microphone inside of a pumpkin with its flesh and seeds expanding. Her writing on moss makes me smile. It’s nice to be still and feel and see. You got it going on. Keep being you! And please keep sharing.
I’ve only read one of Kimmerer’s books and I loved it. I think of her whenever I go out into the marsh behind the farm. I want to read her book about moss too. Thanks for your encouragement Colleen.
