Goose Romance

This isn’t the first time I’ve seen a third goose come into the pasture where our Bedam Farm Goose couple hang out before the female lays her eggs on the other side of the fence near the marsh.

I’m not completely sure, but I imagine the male goose is chasing away another male goose. There was a lot more fighting going on before I took this video.  But I guess I caught the important part of the potential suitor being chased away.

  1. The gander is very protective of his mate. We have 25 geese on our farm. The ganders are very crabby right now. Our oldest couple is George and Martha, he is so much help with the kids and watches over Martha always. So I have seen a few squabbles on the farm. We have at least 2-3 generations on our farm. They are fun to watch and the babies are so cute. They can be a little noisy at times.

    1. If they squabble like these two were I imagine it would be noisy. This morning I heard just their wings making a thunderous sound as the went at each other. Must be fun to watch the generations of geese every year.

  2. My mom told me a story about her brother teasing the geese when they lived on the farm during their childhood, a goose knocked him down and proceeded to flap his powerful wings. Her brother ended up with bruises on his face even though he tried to protect himself. Hard lesson to learn.

  3. It looked to me that the female was looking rather longingly at the escaping interloper. She sounded like she was even calling to him…there’s a story here…( I loved them!)
