I went looking in the woods for wildflowers today and this is what I found growing near the stream. I think these are marsh marigolds, but I’m not sure. I’ve seen them blooming in marshy places near the farm.
The only other flowers I saw blooming were some very shy violets. They were so small and low to the ground I couldn’t get a picture of them. But there they were, bravely popping through the thick ground cover of many year’s leaves. Their small lavender faces bowed to the ground.
After getting back to the farm, I went to the pasture to see if the Bloodroot was blooming. They weren’t yet, but I did find this perfectly round puffball…
yep, marsh marigolds
figured you’d know Sharon!:)
What’s a puffball?
It’s a kind of fungi Jane. When you squish them a big puff of brown dust comes out of them. I imagine that’s how they propagate.
Man. You know everything !
Ha! Google Jane….
I saw my first wild violets yesterday during my walk. I also cut my first fresh asparagus in my garden.
Oh how nice Marsha. I planted aspargus once in my garden then moved before I could ever harvest it. Maybe I’ll plant it again. I don’t plan on moving anytime soon.
