My Painted Lady Butterfly Chrysalides

Four chrysalides soon to be Painted Lady Butterflies.

All but one of our caterpillars has spun its cocoon.

The chrysalis where not all hanging on the lid of the jar as the photo in the butterfly kit showed, three were on the bottom.  So I put them all in the butterfly hatching mesh enclosure.

I’ll put a branch in the mesh enclosure for the butterflies that are on the bottom.  My friend Jackie, who has hatched many butterflies, suggested that this way when they emerge, the butterflies will have a place to hang as their wings unfold.

The last caterpillar has climbed to the top of the enclosure and I expect it will begin spinning its cocoon soon.

In another 7-10 days, they’ll emerge from their chrysalides as butterflies.
