Name Our New Sheep

Our new sheep

There he is, our newest sheep.  A 5-month-old boy, with long legs and a speckled nose.  And he needs a name.  So Jon and I thought it would be fun to ask all of you for suggestions.

If you have an idea, leave me a comment or email me at [email protected].

I’ll give a couple of my magnets of your choice to the winner.

  1. Maria, I know you walk in the woods a lot and love the trees. How about naming the new sheep Sycamore or maybe Hickory?

  2. How about Salty? For his personality (didn’t Jon say he was feisty?) and for the speckles on his nose. My vote.

  3. HI MARIA! I LOOKED AT YOUR NEW SHEEP, SAW THE SPECKLES ON HIS NOSE, AND THOUGHT IT LOOKED LIKE DUST!! SO… OF COURSE, DUSTY!! THAT’S MY CONTRIBUTION TO YOUR NAMING CONTEST! HOPE YOU GET A LOT OF SUGGESTIONS!

  4. Congratulations on the new addition to your flock! I like the name Apricus. It’s Latin and means full of sun light. He’s a beautiful lamb!

  5. If he were a girl, it would be pippi longstocking for sure with those long legs and freckled face. How about Pip, then.
I’ve delivered and named many baby goats, it’s always so much fun figuring out which name matches them best.

  6. With his handsome face he speaks Rhett to me. Charming, adventuresome, likes the ladies (soon) and wants it his way.
Best of luck and thank you both for being on the planet. A much needed respite from cray cray town.
    Stay Safe!

  7. Speckles. Both you and Jon mentioned the speckles on his nose when you blogged to introduce us to him. So I suggest that his name be Speckles!!

  8. The name “Thomas” means “twin” which seems appropriate for this little guy. He looks like he will be a nice addition to the Bedlam Farm flock whatever you and Jon decide to name him!

  9. PECOS BILL… First I thought of the word “pecas” which In Spanish means freckles. But because he’s a boy, I thought PECOS sounds better. And PECOS BILL was a famous cowboy. How cute is that? Pecos Bill! Online I found: The theme of Pecos Bill is to be ready for whatever life throws at you, and to never give up. Pecos Bill is a legend. Pecos Bill personifies the frontier virtues of courage, strength and humor.

  10. My name for him would be *Speck*. I have a longtime friend who tried to name his queensland heeler……….and due to so many spots not only on his body…..but on his nose……he named him Speck. that would be my choice! Love the lambs, good for you for taking them in

  11. Well, I was thinking about a name that signifies newness- Jon wrote about how the flock seems refreshed and this is something of a new beginning, something that happens all the time on a farm, I imagine. But it is also happening in our country now. The name Xavier seems to go along with some of the names in your flock, and it means newness. Specifically “new house.” Also, the name Dillon is Irish and means hope, something we aspire to have and seem to have more of, riding the wave of the election recently. Good luck! He is a beauty.

  12. Hi Maria, The first name I thought of was Oliver. Have no clue why. Then I thought my dads nickname his whole life was Buster. Cool name. I miss him every day. He passed 3+ years ago. ❤️ Pam

  13. I think his name should be “Blessing”. He is adorable. Congratulations on all the new sheep.
    And blessings to you,
    Wendy

  14. I know it’s an obvious choice, but how about “Freckles”? If you choose that name, you’ll just have to cross your fingers that the freckles don’t fade with age!

  15. When I saw this new little boy in one of your other photos the name “Stiltz” or “Stilts” popped into my mind because of his long, thin legs. He looked very tall for his age. I am loving watching your new lambs acclimate to their new home and their new family.

  16. After looking up synonyms for lamb, such as kindness, meekness , innocence and purity, one name always comes to mind. That would be Jesus. The Lamb of god. Yup he’d be my little Jesus!
