Bedlam Farm Wool, Coming Next Week

Constance and Merricat, grazing under the pine in the back pasture

I was surprised to get Deb’s email from the Vermont Fiber Mill letting me know that my wool was ready.

It’s quicker than usual, but I know that a lot of farmers didn’t bring their wool to the mill this year because of the pandemic.  Without the wool festivals and fairs to sell them at, it didn’t make sense for them to process their wool.

Luckily my wool business is online, and there are so many of you out there who want my yarn (thank you!) so that part hasn’t changed for me.

What is different this year is that the Corona Virus delayed Liz from coming in the spring to shear the sheep.  And when she came in the fall, some of the wool hadn’t grown long enough for shearing. Also, I only found out once the wool was at the mill that Asher and Issachar’s wool was too short to make into yarn.  So I’ll have a lot of black roving this time and no black wool.

I think I’ll only be shearing the twins once a year instead of twice like the other sheep.  Their wool, which is a combination of Blueface Leicester, Romney, and Cormo is great for hand-spinning and different from any I’ve had before.

Jon and I will be picking up the yarn on Sunday.  I do have some preorders but I’ll be putting the rest of it up for sale on Monday in my Etsy Shop.

  1. Hi Maria, are you going to have any samplers of your wool? I’ve thoroughly enjoyed knitting with your wool, it’s so soft and moves well on my wooden needles. I will keep an eye open for your wool! Have a wonderful day

    1. I’m not sure Josie, I’ll have to see when I get it. I never know exactly what I’ll be getting. But I can let you know if I do. It is nice to know that you enjoy knitting with my wool.:)

  2. I am currently working on a pair of mittens for myself using a combination of the white wool from your sheep and some alpaca wool I received as a gift from my daughter. I’ll send you a picture when they are finished. I think they’re going to be warm and soft.

  3. Hi Maria….As always, I’m really looking forward to your wool. What colors did you pick this year? I will hope to get a skein!! 🙂
Hope you had a wonderful holiday!
    xoxo

    1. Gloria, I know I got more blue but other than that I can’t remember. I will email you when I get it and let you know though. THanks for asking!
