My favorite story from Jon’s book The New Work Of Dogs is when a man he’s interviewing tells him his dog isn’t allowed on the couch, but she sleeps there anyway. The man lived alone and made the rule up, but did nothing to reinforce it.
So how would the dog ever know?
We have rules in our house about dogs on the couch too. Bud is allowed, Fate is only allowed after the rest of us go to bed upstairs and Zinnia isn’t allowed at all.
I guess for some of us, it’s less about the rules, and more about allowing the dogs to break them.
They look so peaceful! I could you say no to them:)
Yeah, Marsha, I couldn’t either.
