Swallowtail Butterfly Drinking From A Cone Flower

I knew I had a good video when I saw Jon’s face watching it on my iPhone.  He couldn’t stop watching.

There are so many different kinds of bees in our wildflower garden which is mostly blooming with coneflowers and beebalm right now.  I was content watching them, but when the Swallowtail butterfly with the torn tail showed up, I focused on her.

You can clearly see her dipping her proboscis into the coneflower.  The proboscis is like a sponge that pulls nectar from the flower for the butterfly to drink.

  1. So beautiful. I love this time of year with all the bees and butterflies. Though a butterfly followed me in through the door today! I’d never had that happen before. She landed on the ceiling fan and climbed into one of the grooves. I think she thought it was a butterfly house. I don’t know what to do to entice her out and get her back outside. though I did set out a mushed up banana hoping she will eventually come out for that so I can gently get her back into the wild.

    1. Barbara, that is amazing! You have something to work with in that encounter. I hope you get your butterfly back outside. Good idea with the banana!

  2. Mushroom Land is amazing. I’ve never seen so many and not all in one forest. Some shapes and colors are unique. You walk the land like I do.
