“I Sometimes Forget That I Was Created For Joy”

A circle in the snow

Cheryl sent me this Hafiz poem and it brought me such joy, what could I do but share it with you…..

I sometimes forget
that I was created for Joy.
My mind is too busy.
My Heart is too heavy
for me to remember
that I have been
called to dance
the Sacred dance of life.
I was created to smile
To Love
To be lifted up
And to lift others up.
O’ Sacred One
Untangle my feet
from all that ensnares.
Free my soul.
That we might
Dance
and that our dancing
might be contagious.
~Hafiz

  1. I love this. I’ve really been feeling that spirit back to joy after the last two years. I see this as one of the blessings of the last two years in some ways…We ARE here to experience joy and I’ve started the New Year by embracing this even more. So I appreciate the poem as a lovely reminder.

  2. A friend asked me to post your poem in our monthly news letter. She is the Chaplin of our club. Is it okay to copy your poem and paste it? Not for resale, just for inspiration.
I don’t want to get into any trouble by posting it.

    1. Shelly if it were my poem I’d give you permission to reprint it. But it is not mine. It’s the wonderful sufi poet Hafez. So you need no permision from me. The peom was sent to me by a reader and I reprinted it becuase I believe it should be shared.

  3. Love it. I am a chaplain in healthcare settings. I read them now and then to a group of nurse and doctors. its a powerful reminder!

    1. It is, I’m glad to see your comment, because it reminded me Rolando. A good idea to read it when I teach my next class at The Mansion. 🙂
