Beginning My Shibori Hankie Quilt

I started working on my Shibori Hankie quilt today.  I began by cutting out the designs in the hankies that I found interesting. Because they’re so thin, I backed them with white cotton fabric.

Then I chose a blue fabric to sew around them.  I had a few blues to choose from, but I liked the color as well as the texture of the linen fabric I chose.

The piece above is what I got done today.  It’s not very big yet, about 20 inches square.

I had a lot of interruptions to my day so didn’t get a lot of studio time.  But I do like the way the small hankie pieces look in the dark blue.  They remind me of my macro lens photos of plants or insects.  Or like something you’d see under a microscope.
