Two More Ideas From My March Drawing

The quilt drawing from March

It was back in March that I laid the old quilt on my floor and just started drawing on it with marker.  This is where I got the idea for my piece “Talk About the Weather”.  But  I also have two other ideas growing from that one drawing.

One is bird-woman with the words Freedom lurks inside of me.  And the other is the crying eye watering a flower.

I started thinking about both of them today.

First I found the fabric that I’ll make the Bird-woman on.  It’s the same quilt top that I used for the backing for my Mother Mary fabric painting.

This piece will fit on one square of the quilt and the bit of white fabric above it.  Those two flowers extending down from the center of the square will be her legs and feet.  I’ll remove the rest of the applique one hand stitch at a time and that’s where the rest of my Bird-woman’s body will be.

Then I started to think about the watering eye.  So I looked through my linens to see if there was a hand-embroidered flower that I could use.

I didn’t find one, but I came up with this embroidery of a whole garden that Carolyn gave me.  It made me think that maybe there could be more than one watering eye.

But I still like the idea of one eye and one flower, so maybe there are two pieces.

I have to get ready for Bellydancing Class in a bit, and I’m looking forward to going, but a part of me wants to stay in my studio and keep working on all of these.
