Hard Frost

A Dahlia lined with frost

We had a hard frost last night.  The dahlias and even the zinnias didn’t survive it.

We had a good long growing season, and now it’s time to put the gardens to bed for the winter.  The temperatures over the weekend are supposed to be in the 60s, so it will be good for digging up dahlias and cleaning up the vegetable garden.

I have some sweet potatoes to dig up too.  I’ve never grown them before, so it will be a new experience.  I’ve read about how to best dig them up so they don’t get damaged and the need to cure them.

We have lots of donkey manure to replenish the gardens with and as I’ve done in the past few years, I’ll cover the manure with leaves and cardboard to keep the weeds from growing.
