Kitty Anne Is Molting

There are feathers everywhere. It’s Kitty and Anne’s first molting.  That’s when the hens lose their feathers, usually in the fall, then grow back nice new, strong, warm feathers for the winter.

White Hen already molted, but she never looked as straggly as Kitty and Anne are looking.

When the hens molt they stop laying eggs too.  And since White Hen stops laying this time of year because of her age, that means no eggs for breakfast.

But soon they’ll be looking like royalty again. Actually, they still have the attitude, they just don’t have the plumage.
