The Hens Come Out Of The Coop

After a week of staying inside the chicken coop, the hens emerged yesterday.  They usually don’t come out if they can’t see the ground and there is still ice and snow outside their doorway.

Maybe it was the sun that drew them out.   Or the dried mealworms I scattered while they stuck their heads out of the door.

At first, they stayed close to the coop, but by the time I came back from my walk in the woods, they were under the bird feeder as usual, pecking around and fluffing their feathers.
