Each morning I go to the back pasture to see if the turtles have hatched. I saw the painted turtle laying her eggs in between two of the pine trees I planted in the early summer.
The turtles will hatch sometime between now and September. I don’t expect to see the baby turtles, that would be too much to ask for. But I hope to see the remains of an eggshell or two.
The trees give me the perfect marker to be able to find the spot where the turtle laid her eggs. I’ve found shells before, they look like soft oblong ping-pong balls.
After cleaning up my studio this morning, the second turtle I made last week called to me. I easily found just the right fabric to make it into a pillow.
I loved painting and stitching the turtle. The spiral on her shell is my own addition, but they do actually have a keystone, like an archway, at the top of the shell. I may create some smaller ones to make into potholders.
I didn’t get to finish the Turtle Pillow today but will tomorrow. It’s about 16″x 20″ and will be $100 + shipping when I get it done.
