Notes From The BarnYard

Kim, Issachar, Robin, Merricat and Constance,

Fanny’s waiting at the gate alone.  I offer her a wilted zinnia and she chews it slowly.  I wonder if she’s savoring it.

Lulu pokes her head around the corner of the barn heads for us.  I pick up an apple from the grass, half of it chewed brown by insects and hold it out to her.  Her big soft lips brush my hand as she gently takes it.

It’s cooler than it’s been in weeks.  The sheep are lazily grazing and chewing their cud in the barnyard.

The ground is still wet from last night’s rain and Fate leaves a trail of flat grass that no longer glistens in the morning light,  as she circles Asher, Kim and Constance.

I leave the barn yard and kick off my boots.

The grass is soft, wet, and cool on my bare feet.  It’s like wading in water.  I slow down and look for things to do in the yard.  It feels too good to go back inside just yet.
