“Memory Of Belonging”, All Done

I finished Memory of Belonging today.  Looking at it all done, I feel like I’m going to miss those linens.  I’ve had them for so long and they are such a joy to look at.  Mostly I’m glad they are out of my cabinet and back into the world.  Back doing the thing they were made for, to be appreciated, used  and enjoyed.

The backing fabric is mostly  from Lorry.  It belonged to her mom who had a wonderful collection of fabric that me and my quilts are now benefiting from.  The colors were just right.  And I know from Lorry that her mom would be happy her fabric was being used.

I’ll mail out Memory of Belonging to its new home this week.

  1. Looks beautiful! I have a hard time leaving linens like that or dollies at a sale when I get across them, not because I have a need for them but because I appreciate the work that have gone into them. It’s been facilitating for me to see you making use of them. I won’t lie, it hurts a bit when you cut them up but the end result is so much better than they stay in a drawer somewhere. The emotional journey through all that is all mine if that makes sense.

    1. I get that about cutting them up KJ. But I have to if I’m going to use them. And I really love being able to transform them in this way. It’s the same with the way I take quilts apart and re create them. I do it with a nod to the person who made them even thought I usually don’t know who they are. :)

      1. You are absolutely right, taking something almost forgotten and give it life again, honors the person creating it in the first place.

  2. I LOVE everything about this quilt, Maria. I can imagine putting it on my bed and enjoying each embroidered piece every time I looked at it. Keeping the white with no border makes it look light and fresh – it’s just perfect !
I am curious about how you will tie it to the backing. Will you use white?
