I received the box of linens from Judy a few days ago. Many of them were made by her husband’s grandmother. “We didn’t want to keep them, but didn’t want to throw them out or donate them in a big pile at Goodwill. We hope you can use them in your art…”
As I read Judy’s message I pictured the linens discarded and unwanted. Just what Judy was trying to avoid.
And she had, I am very happy to have these linens.
There are a couple of lovely Irish linen tablecloths and a delightful hand-embroidered dancing pear, and an orange leaning on a hand juicer. I know I’ll use them all eventually.
But right now the bluebirds have my attention.
One for every day of the week. That calendar of chores, laundry on Monday and mending on Wednesday. “Oh look”, I squealed to no one but myself, when I saw the bluebird with the thread in her mouth and the scissors close by.
I still smile when I look at them.
Of course they need to be a quilt. And I’m ready for another one after finishing Memory of Belonging.
Thanks Judy. Looking at the linens you sent me, I think I would have liked your husband’s grandmother.
I feel like the Bluebird of Happiness has landed at just the right moment.

How cool! Love the bluebirds & can’t wait to see the quilt!
