After all that heat for so long, we woke up to what felt like a rainy autumn day. Cold enough for long sleeves and socks. The sun showed up only long enough for Jon to sneak out of the house and photograph his flowers.
I say Jon snuck out because he’s not feeling well and spent a good part of the day sleeping. For the morning and early afternoon, I came in from my studio every half hour to check on him. Once he got up to blog, I knew he was feeling good enough for me to leave him alone.
The Naked Ladies growing next to the stone wall, got pummeled by the rain, they’re bent, but not broken. They’re called Naked Ladies because the leaves grow in the spring but die back by the time the flowers bloom in August on their long leafless stems.
The dahlias are just beginning to bloom. Some of them are struggling this year. This fall, when I dig up the bulbs, I’ll do better replenishing the soil. I have a good pile of year old manure and hopefully by then I’ll have some wool pellets to add to the soil too.
Zip followed me when I went to check on the flowers. But he lost interest in me quick enough when he heard or smelled a chipmunk in the stone wall.
