The birch trees we planted around the yard are growing so well they are beginning to shade my vegetable garden.
The winter squash its looking for sun. It’s trailing through the fence and into the pasture. Even with the prickly leaves, the sheep were showing too much interest.
So I trained the squash vine along the fence by pushing a few of the large leaves through the small rectangles of the fence and wrapping the tendrils around the wire.
The tendrils seemed to be grateful for something to hang on to. And now, instead of seeking the sun along the ground, the vines are headed straight up the fence.

In the fall I’ll prune back some of the branches from the birches. I’ve already pruned one walkway were the birch branches meet the lilacs.
I’m not even sure what kind of squash this is. Maybe someone reading this knows. I do know it’s big and healthy. I imagine when it’s ripe, it will be easier to identify.

Zip showed up as usual. He loves to get in the picture. And he loves to visit with Zinnia, they were touching noses through the fence.

Shape reminds me of butternut squash, but not the color. Will be curious to find out. I’m sure one of your readers will know. What a great source of information among your followers.
