Jon Seeing More Color Already After His Cataract Surgery

Jon and I stopped on the way home from his cataract surgery to have breakfast.

We got take out breakfast sandwiches and iced tea,  but decided to stop and eat in the park by the Hudson River instead of waiting to get home.  We’d been up since five and Jon  hadn’t eaten anything so he was hungry.  I had eaten, but I was hungry too.

The surgery went well and after a nap Jon was back at work.  I don’t even try anymore tell him to rest.  Or maybe even take the day off.

But I do understand, our  love of our work is something we share.  And I was eager to get to my studio too.

This evening before the sun set, I put a single gladiola in a vase for Jon and brought it out to the barnyard so he could take its picture.  And he helped talk me down from a looming panic attack.  I even got some helpful insights from our conversation.

I’ve realized over our years together, the importance of the give and take in a relationship.

A while back  Jon was having a hard time physically and I was doing most of the work around the house and farm  and caretaking while he healed.   But in the evening, he would rub my feet.

He gave what he could (and it felt so good), showing his love and caring for me.

And that made all the difference.
