I dated the drawings, which is the only way I knew they were from 2011. Although I could have looked it up on my blog. I recognized the drawings and paintings (if you can call them that) from one of Jon’s book tours that took us to Portland, Oregon.
Jon gave me the watercolor pad and a travel water color travel kit back then. I never took to the watercolor and the pad with my experimenting got lost in my studio until I went looking for another small sketch pad to put in my bag a couple of months ago.
I guess you could say I finished this drawing yesterday.
I put the paint on the page in 2011, the writing on top was a reminder to me for the directions to Jon’s Retina specialist from a month ago and the rest happened while I was waiting for Jon to come out of cataract surgery.
Today, we spent the morning at Jon’s follow-up in Glens Falls. On the way home, after getting the plastic up off his eye, he was marveling at the clarity and colors he was able to see in the clouds, sky, traffic signs and cars. I was stunned how well he did on the eye test compared to two weeks ago when he took the same one except with his glasses on.
So it’s something to celebrate Jon’s new flower eyes. He still has some healing to do, (it’s remarkable how quickly it really does heal) but we’re not worried about it. He’s good at healing even if he doesn’t do everything he’s told.
In three week he’ll do it again with is left eye.

Maria, it is amazing how you’ve captured Jon in just a few lines. The eyes especially. So cool!
Thanks Sharon. :)
