Starting My “Not Going Back” Quilt

I started working on my Not Going Back Quilt today.

I began with the vintage linens of Victorian women, most in long dresses and bonnets.  Then I add my own words and images.

I love how the first one with the woman and little girl echos my own personal journey from this morning as well as being political.

For this piece I added one of my Flying Vulvas.  It is one of the first Flying Vulvas I made over six years ago.  It’s been hanging on my studio wall.  I see it as an embroidery like the vintage ones I’m working with.  Only I made this one.  A nice connection through time.

This is one of the three hankies I have with Victorian women crocheted on the corner.  I’ll trim this  so the flag fabric is only visible through the hankie and the woman’s dress.  I stitched the words “Not going back” over and over on the hankie.

Each time I work on a linen, I get more ideas for the others that I have.  I know where I’ll begin tomorrow and I’m excited to get to it.
