After calls to the Insurance Company, the body shop to tow my car and the car rental (I’ll get a car tomorrow) I got to my studio.
My head was so much more clear than on Friday. I knew just what to do with my quilt. I took a few more of the pieces I had sewn together apart. Then I worked on the last hankie.

I made this hankie to be diamond shaped, but it needed to sit in a square. I do so much more pinning when making this kind of quilt with top stitching and layered fabric. Usually I don’t use pins at all when I’m sewing.
I used the Ox Head napkins that my friend Anne gave me, sewing a piece of pink fabric under them to make the design show up better. The pink also works with the colors in the hankie.

After that I redesigned the center of the quilt. It needed more space between pieces. And some simpler pieces of fabric so the individual parts could breathe.

Then I tentatively laid out where the rest of the pieces will go on the quilt. Even looking at this picture now I see some changes I might make.

Maria — your creations with the vintage needle work are wonderful.
Thank you Janice.
What does the square in the far left corner say?
That’s the one with Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz Marsha. It’s part of the quote from Glinda, “You’ve Always Had The Power”. I wrote about the quote and Frank Baum’s mother in law the early feminist Matilda Joslyn Gage, who inspired Baum’s writing, in an earlier post.
