I was in my studio working when I heard the thumping and bumping.
When we first moved to the farm, our barn cat Minnie found the hole in the foundation of my studio. She used it as a doorway to the crawl space where she would sleep. I could hear her snoring. And my dog at the time, Frieda, would sniff and whine at the floor boards where Minnie was.
One fall I found Frieda playing with a dead woodchuck. He tried to make his winter home under my studio.
I blocked up the hole with bricks last fall, when I put those bags full of leaves around my foundation as insulation. It was letting a lot of cold air in over the years.
Today Bud pulled those bricks out of the hole and was halfway under my studio when I found him. (The hole is a little too small for him to fit through) At first I told him to stop and leave what ever it was he was hunting alone.
But then I thought better of it.
Two years ago I had a mouse living in the wall of my studio and running through it at night. I even found the beginnings of a nest in the fabric on one of my shelves. I blocked up the obvious holes inside my studio with tin.
But I don’t want a mouse, chipmunk or rat, living in my studio.
So, instead I said “Good boy Bud. ” And let him get to it.
If anything is trying to make a winter home in my studio I have a good feeling that it may be thinking twice about it now.

Sweet! I love it. Letting Bud the fearless bouncer at the door do his inborn gifted thing !
HA! I love that Larry, Bud as bouncer! Perfect.
Good for Bud! Everyone on the farm has their contribution to make. If he’s frustrated by that elusive squirrel up his tree, then at least maybe he can find success in keeping your studio pest-free.
Ah yes, Amy, you’re right, some satisfaction for him.
Bud, he is a good boy.
And being allowed to do what he is so good at doing☺️
Definitely!
