It’s been so dry, the animals foot paths in the pasture are turning to dust. But for the past two days there has been a steady mist of rain. Not enough, the first day, to even moisten the earth beneath the trees, but today even that ground is damp.
The sheep don’t mind the rain, their thick wool coats keep them dry. And the donkey only stay inside the barn when the rain is hard.
All the animals come out in the rain if there is food involved. But they also find shelter in-between.
Zip in the barn, and porches, and the hens under the raised garden beds and the chicken coop.

You can see how Kitty Anne is molting. Her feathers are scattered all over the farm and make a nice bed in the coop. Right now she looks a bit rough, her pink skin and shaft of her feathers exposed. All three hens lose their feathers this time of year and grow back a healthy new feathers to keep them warm all winter. The stop laying eggs now too, putting all their energy into growing their feathers.
