Your wool is so long and beautiful, I silently told Merricat as she put her face to mine. I could see and hear her nostrils taking in my scent. I dug my fingers deep in her wool and scratched her along her neck.
Fanny waited patiently on the other side of me and soon Lulu and Zip came over too.
When Merricat moved away I leaned into Fanny.
Her hair is growing in again. I felt it a few night ago when I couldn’t sleep and went out to the barnyard. It grows back so gradually, it was as if I needed to feel it without being about to see the donkeys clearly to know it was growing.
As soon as Lulu sheds all her hair, it’s time for it to grow back. Fanny’s hair shed quicker, so she gets to enjoy being lighter a little longer.
Now Fanny’s hair was soft against my cheek, I breathed in her scent with my limited human nose. I know I didn’t get the detailed story of Fanny that Merricat got of me.
Only the smell of earth and clean air, that I would bottle if I could.

If you figure out how to bottle that wonderful scent I’ll buy it! Along with the smell of sheets and clothes dried on the clothesline.
It’s funny LoisJean, I was thinking it’s like the smell of clothes on the line but more earthy.
