Fall Flowers

The dahlia’s, marigolds and zinnias, keep us in flowers this time of year.  The bees fall asleep in them as the day cools and wake in them the next morning warmed by the sun.

I brought all my plants that I put out on the porch for the summer, back in the house yesterday.

Next week the temperatures will be in the thirties at night.   Tomorrow I’ll tie colored yarn around the Dahlias (red for red flowers, yellow for yellow, etc)  so when there is finally a frost, I’ll know what color the flowers are on each plant.

Fall came quick this year, although when I think of it there were many signs beside the color of the leaves.

The paper birch lost her leaves
The golden light
Zip and the donkey’s hair thick in my hands
Leaves crunching under my boots
Wishing I had my gloves in the morning
