The first thing I saw when I walked out of the house this morning was the frost. Everything was shimmering white.
The chickens water and birdbath had a thick layer of ice on them.

I wished I had picked more of my flowers yesterday. In just a few hours, the Black Eyed-Susan lost it’s deep yellow color and the petals wilted even more.
I’m glad I tagged my dahlia’s last weekend.

The thistle was frosty and all the fallen leaves were laced with ice. The manure sprouted a coat of crystals. And Issachar must have spent some time out of the barn, because his wool was beaded with with frozen dew.

The frost melted with the rising sun. It’s wasn’t a hard frost. My mint, kale and the grass survived.
And by the afternoon the sheep and donkeys were grazing in the back pasture.

I grew up in Salem…I’d forgotten how early frost comes there. I do recall that Halloween costumes were NOT skimpy fairy princesses, but usually some riff on a snowsuit.
This is just about the time most years Bridgett. That’s a telling memory about the Halloween costumes!
