Desert Days

These past couple of days are as hot as the morning clouds look.  But as soon as the sun goes behind the hill in the evening, the nights begin to cool.

It’s like being in the desert I say to Fanny and Lulu.  I’m convinced that even though they’ve lived their whole lives in Upstate NY, they know about the desert.

I unplug their water bucket and make sure it stays full.  They’re drinking a lot.  There’s no moisture in the hay and the grass is dry too.

Fate stirs the dusty earth as she runs round and round, her tongue all but touching the ground.

We were just starting to get used to the cold and now it’s hot again.
