Happy…Having a sense of confidence in or satisfaction with a person, arrangement or situation. Oxford Americans Writers Dictionary
“It’s not a house, it’s a home” Bob Dylan
…………………..
My idea of a happy home may not be your idea of a happy home. I think we each find happiness in our own way.
At another point in my life I would have thought the words cliche’ or sappy. But for me it was living in homes without love and then finding happiness with Jon, my work, the animals and farm that give the phrase meaning.
And I don’t take it lightly.
When I think of our happy home I picture Jon and me doing our work or sitting under the apple tree watching the birds, donkeys and sheep. I think of the dogs sleeping snuggly in the living room at the end of the day.
That said, to me, a happy home is not really about things.
It’s the feeling of ease and love, of safety and nurturing that I bring to a place. And it’s those feeling, shared by both Jon and me that make Bedlam Farm a Happy Home.
I got the idea for my Happy Home Potholders from a drawing I did when blogging on the front porch this summer.
The Happy Home sign that hangs on the porch is a brick from an old house that our friend Jack, gave to Jon and me when we got married. It’s has the words “Happy Home 1887” stamped into it. Jack, who is an artist, fashioned a hanging frame for the brick. I put the hanging succulent on the porch at the beginning of the summer and loved the way the two looked together.
Jon did too. He took a picture of it without ever having seen my drawing.

I stitched and painted each of my Happy Home Potholders individually. So each one is an original piece of functional art. They can be machine washed and dried although line drying will allow the fabric paint to not fade as quickly.
My Happy Home Potholders are $30 each plus $5 shipping for one or more. You can see them all in my Etsy Shop, just click here. You can also email me at [email protected]. I take checks, PayPal and Venmo.

Ease, Love, Safety and Nurturing. These words keeps turning in my head.
Just sayin’…
I actually hadn’t thought of them together until I wrote this. That’s what my art often does, tells me something about myself I didn’t know. And I always hope that someone else can relate to it too. So thank you for letting me know. :)
