I Got My Wool Pellets Today

I was very excited to get my Wool Pellets in the mail today.

I’ll be selling the pellets as a soil supplement.  They are made from my junk wool.  That’s the wool that is too dirty or short. It comes mostly from the belly of the sheep.  It can’t be made into yarn or roving but I’ve never liked just throwing it in the garbage.  Not only because it adds to greenhouse gasses, but it just never felt right to me that it should end up in a landfill.

So now I can make it into wool pellets that can be added to the garden.

Wool contains nitrogen and potassium which both help with plant structure.  The pellets help aerate the soil and keep it moist.  They also repel slugs and can be used as mulch.

It takes one pound of pellets to cover a thirty square foot garden.  You can either mix the wool pellets into the soil,  or use them as a mulch after planting.

I can’t wait to try them out in my garden in the spring.

It’s probably not the best time of year to be selling the pellets, but I think a bag of wool pellets would be a welcome gift to most gardeners.  And it’s not as if they’ll go bad, if stored in a cool dry place they can last more than three years.

I still have to figure out the pricing and packaging of my wool pellets, but I hope to have them ready to sell by the end of the week.
