The birds came to me in the early morning. Before the sun, before I was fully awake. Shadow birds, like those that greeted me in my studio the morning before.
I put the small swatch of fabric in a special place. I knew I’d be getting back to it. I wanted to be able to find it when the time came.

Now was the time. It’s been November cold for two days. Cold enough for me to wear my gloves, for frost to lay in the shadows, for the donkeys to want to eat before being brushed.
I pieced together the Shadow Bird Potholders using the scraps on my studio floor. The scraps of my Acorn scrap Quilt.
I used up the Shadow Birds, then made a few more scrap potholders. I’ll work on them more tomorrow and next week.
