Rain

It started early this morning with a light drizzle and continued coming down harder by the afternoon.  Like in many places around the county it’s been a while since we’ve had rain.  Long enough for the pond to go dry and the grass under the maple outside my studio to die, the soil now dust.

Drought has been declared not far from us but luckily we haven’t had a loss in our ground water.

Bud spent the day inside, sleeping by the wood stoves…

…and the hens hung out under Jon’s raised flower beds and the chicken coop.

The pole barn is dry for the sheep and donkeys.  But they spent a good part of the day grazing in the rain.  The donkey’s coats are so shaggy now they hardly notice.  And the sheep have their wool coat to keep them dry.
