Mending The Fence

The metal posts

Two of the wooden fence posts in the Back Pasture rotted, then collapsed the five strand wire fence.  Luckily there were enough brambles to keep the animals from wandering into the neighbors yard until I could fix it.

I got started last week and finished today.

Robin came around to see what was going on.

I can’t dig a hole for wooden fence posts, it has to be too deep and the posts are too long and heavy for me to work with.

But I can knock a metal post into the ground with a sledge hammer.  I put two in last week and since it was such a long expanse, I decided to put another one in today.

Fate quickly left to hang out with the sheep, but Zinnia stuck close keeping me company while I worked.

Then, just to be safe, I attached turkey wire to the wire fence.  I did the same thing last year to another part of the fence and it’s worked really well in keeping the fence secure.

With the fence fixed I can leave the back gate open so the sheep and donkeys can graze there when ever they want. There isn’t much for them to eat, but they can nibble on the dry grass and what is left of the wildflowers.

This time of year, it keeps them from getting bored and eating the wood around the barn.

I used wire to attach the turkey wire to the fence.  I wrap it in a way that is similar to the vines that sometimes grow on the fence.
